GVLJazz Academy is the recently established direct jazz instruction arm of the Greenville Jazz Collective. Our programs provide students the opportunity to learn directly from professional jazz musicians who are educators as well. They come away with musician skills which can be applied in almost all musical situations!
GVLJazz Academy Small Group program runs from November into May, and provides students a weekly opportunity to learn jazz experientially in the context of a small group combo.
Playing in a combo is an important window into the world of jazz, as it combines both the discipline of playing structured elements and the adventure of improvisation
Building on the many years that the Greenville Jazz Collective and Furman University jointly presented the camp at Furman University, the Greenville Jazz Collective Summer Jazz Camp is held during the summer at the Greenville Fine Arts Center
Using the context of small group combos (six in 2026), students spend four days placed with fellow student musicians working on technique, tunes, improvisation, and preparation for a camp-finale concert!
